Being a CEO of Polaroid
The company is not going to die immediately, we have a few years:
There are still opportunities in Africa, where people cannot afford digital cameras.
People will continue buying film, for cameras they already have
Meanwhile, we have to start shrinking (decreasing in size):
People who have been with the company for many years should be given decent retirement
Younger people should be given layoff notices well in advance, so they have time to find new jobs
At the same time, we should be shifting our focus from production to sales of the products of other companies, using our brand name as advertisement
In 2005 there was another interview, with NYT, with the title “Big Picture Beyond Photos”.
